Chris Gardner's story is one of the most inspiring tales of perseverance, hard work and determination. After moving to San Francisco, Gardner became homeless with his son, and only survived on food stamps. After a few months of hardship, he landed an unpaid internship and eventually a job at Stock Brokerage firm Dean Witter Reynolds, turning his life around from being homeless to becoming a millionaire.
In the early 1980s, Gardner moved to San Francisco to pursue a career in finance. He had no experience or connections in the industry, but he had the determination to succeed. Unfortunately, he soon found himself struggling to make ends meet, until he and his young son, Christopher, were evicted from their apartment. With nowhere else to go, they were forced to spend nights sleeping in public restrooms, subway stations, and homeless shelters, using foodstamps to survive.
Despite the challenges, Gardner refused to give up. He continued to pursue his dream of becoming a stockbroker and spent long hours studying the industry, eventually landing an unpaid internship at a prestigious brokerage firm.
Despite not being paid in the internship program, Gardner pushed forward working tirelessly, continuing to sleep in parks and subway stations so he can use whatever money he has left for food. He also made sure his son was taken cared of, enrolling him in daycare and spending as much time as possible with him when he wasn't working.
After a few months, Gardner was finally offered a full-time job at Dean Witter Reynolds, and eventually worked his way up the ranks over the years. He soon started his own investment firm, Gardner Rich & Co and became extremely wealthy.
Today, Gardner is a successful businessman, author, and motivational speaker. He has written several books, including "The Pursuit of Happyness," which was adapted into a major motion picture starring Will Smith. He is also involved in philanthropy, using his success to give back to those in need.
